A pool-lighting equipment supplier required a reliable transformer for an outdoor installation exposed to high humidity, condensation, rain and occasional water splashes. The transformer needed to convert a 230V AC mains supply into an isolated 24V AC output for low-voltage pool lights while fitting within a project-specific installation enclosure.
Standard open-frame transformers were unsuitable because moisture could reach the windings, terminals and internal insulation. Long-term exposure to humid outdoor conditions could lead to insulation deterioration, corrosion, leakage current or premature failure.

ECKO developed a customized, fully encapsulated waterproof transformer based on the customer’s electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements.
The windings and internal connections were completely encapsulated with insulating resin. This reduced the possibility of moisture entering the transformer and provided additional mechanical protection against vibration and environmental exposure.
Sealed cable exits were incorporated into the enclosure to help prevent water from entering through the lead-wire connection points. The cable type, length, colour and termination method were also customized according to the customer’s wiring system.
A project-specific enclosure was designed to match the available installation space and mounting arrangement. During the design stage, ECKO reviewed the transformer dimensions, resin volume and heat-dissipation path to maintain an acceptable temperature rise at the required load.
