Six Reasons Engineers Specify a Custom Waterproof Transformer

Complete Epoxy Encapsulation

Thermally conductive epoxy surrounds the internal coil and core assembly, helping protect critical components from moisture, dust and vibration. The resin system and curing process are selected according to temperature rise and operating environment.

Electrical Isolation for Low-Voltage Equipment

Separate primary and secondary windings provide galvanic isolation between the mains supply and low-voltage equipment. Insulation thickness, creepage distance and dielectric strength are defined according to the approved safety design.

Stable Voltage Under Actual Load

Core size, winding turns and copper wire diameter are calculated around the real load, duty cycle, cable length and required voltage regulation. This helps reduce low output voltage and unstable equipment operation.

Temperature-Rise Controlled Design

The winding, magnetic core, enclosure and potting material are considered as one thermal system. Temperature-rise validation can be performed under the agreed load and ambient conditions before mass production.

Outdoor Cable and Connector Options

Cable length, jacket material, wire color, waterproof gland, strain relief, plug and connector can be matched to the customer’s equipment. Cable exits are designed to reduce pulling stress and potential moisture entry.

Application-Specific Mechanical Design

Round and square housings, mounting holes, cable exit direction, overall dimensions and labels can be customized. ECKO can also develop replacement models from an existing drawing, specification or physical sample.

Customization Options

Custom Waterproof Transformers Built Around Your Equipment

A waterproof transformer should be designed around more than input and output voltage. ECKO evaluates the electrical load, installation method, ambient conditions, cable distance and required safety protection before finalizing the design.

Where Waterproof Transformers Are Used?

Swimming Pool Lighting Systems

A custom 12V or 24V AC isolation transformer can supply low-voltage swimming pool lights from a 110V, 120V, 220V, 230V or 240V mains input. The transformer should be installed in a code-compliant location outside the pool according to local electrical regulations.

Landscape and Garden Lighting

Waterproof transformer provide low-voltage power for garden lights, path lights, spotlights and other landscape lighting systems exposed to rain and humidity. Output voltage can be adjusted for cable length and expected voltage drop.

Fountains and Water Features

Fountain lights, misting systems and decorative water features often require isolated low-voltage power close to a humid operating area. Enclosure, potting resin, cable exit and mounting method are selected around the installation conditions.

Outdoor Architectural Lighting

The transformer can be customized for façade lighting, signage, courtyard lighting and commercial outdoor illumination. Multiple output windings or several lighting circuits can be considered during the design stage.

Spa and Smart Bathroom Equipment

Waterproof transformer can supply low-voltage lighting, control circuits and auxiliary electrical equipment in spa and bathroom systems. The installation zone, insulation requirements and applicable safety standards must be confirmed before production.

Marine, Irrigation and Wastewater Equipment

Special waterproof transformer designs can be evaluated for marine auxiliary equipment, irrigation controls and wastewater systems. Salt, chlorine, chemicals, UV exposure and corrosion requirements should be specified during the engineering review.

Why OEM Buyers Choose ECKO for Waterproof Transformer Projects

Application-Based Engineering

We review the load type, duty cycle, cable distance, ambient temperature, installation zone and target safety requirements before finalizing the transformer. This helps avoid incorrect VA selection, excessive temperature rise and unstable output voltage.

Electrical and Mechanical Design in One Project

The transformer winding, magnetic core, enclosure, resin, cable gland and mounting structure are developed as one complete assembly. This is especially important when IP protection and thermal performance must be achieved at the same time.

Controlled Design Documentation

Input, output, wire size, protection components, dimensions, cable pinout and label information are recorded in the approved drawing. Engineering changes can therefore be reviewed and controlled before they enter production.

Waterproofing Beyond an Outer Coating

A reliable waterproof design depends on the resin, housing, cable jacket, cable entry, strain relief, curing process and installation method. ECKO evaluates these details instead of relying only on an external waterproof label.

Prototype and Production Capability

Established in 2000, ECKO operates three workshops covering approximately 5,000 square metres with 150 skilled workers and annual capacity of around one million wound-component products Prototype lead time can be as fast as 1–3 days when the required materials are available.

Technical Support from Sample to Mass Production

Customers can confirm electrical performance, dimensions, cable assembly, label and installation fit with a prototype before production. Inspection requirements and project-specific test reports can be agreed during sample approval.

Quality Testing

Waterproof Transformer Inspection and Validation

Routine electrical tests and design-validation tests serve different purposes. The final test limits and inspection frequency should be recorded in the approved specification or Control Plan.

Waterproof Transformers FAQ

1. What type of transformer is required for swimming pool lights?

Swimming pool lights commonly use an isolation transformer that converts the mains input into a lower AC voltage, such as 12V or 24V. The input voltage, output voltage, rated current, isolation requirements and installation location must comply with the applicable local electrical regulations.

2. Should I choose a 12V or 24V transformer for pool lighting?

The correct voltage must match the rated input of the pool light. For the same power, a 24V system carries less current than a 12V system and may experience lower cable losses. However, 24V must not be used with lights designed only for 12V.

3. How do I calculate the required transformer power?

Add the rated power of all lights that will operate simultaneously, then consider cable losses, startup characteristics, ambient temperature and the desired operating margin. Do not select a transformer whose rated capacity is lower than the total connected load.

For example, ten 12W lights create a nominal load of 120W. The final transformer rating should be confirmed after considering the cable length and installation conditions.

4. Can one transformer power multiple pool or landscape lights?

Yes. One transformer can power multiple lights when the combined load does not exceed its rated capacity and the wiring is correctly designed. Please provide the number of lights, wattage per light, operating voltage and cable length for evaluation.

5. Can you provide multiple output circuits?

Yes. ECKO can design a transformer with multiple secondary windings, separate output circuits, a center-tapped output or several voltage outputs. Please specify whether the circuits must be electrically isolated from one another.

6. How does cable length affect pool and landscape lighting?

Long low-voltage cables create voltage drop, especially in 12V systems with high current. Excessive voltage drop can cause dim lighting, unstable operation or different brightness levels between fixtures.

Please provide the cable length, conductor size, number of lights and operating current so that the output voltage and wiring arrangement can be evaluated.

7. Can the output voltage be adjusted to compensate for cable voltage drop?

Yes. The output voltage may be optimized for a defined cable length and load. The adjustment must remain within the acceptable input range of the lighting equipment, so the cable and load information should be confirmed before production.

8. Does an IP67 transformer mean it can be installed permanently underwater?

No. IP67 normally indicates protection against dust and temporary immersion under defined test conditions. It does not automatically mean the transformer is approved for continuous underwater operation.

A pool-light transformer is normally installed outside the pool in a compliant electrical zone. Permanent underwater use requires a specially designed and validated product.

9. What is the difference between IP65 and IP67?

IP65 generally provides protection against dust and water jets, making it suitable for many sheltered outdoor installations. IP67 adds protection against temporary water immersion under defined conditions.

The required rating should be selected according to the actual installation location, exposure level and applicable electrical standard.

10. Does a pool-light transformer provide AC or DC output?

A conventional transformer provides AC output. Many pool and landscape lights operate on 12V AC or 24V AC, but some LED products require DC power or a dedicated LED driver.

Please confirm whether the lighting equipment requires AC or DC before selecting the transformer.
